money doesnt make a player a pro. a pro is just someone who does something for a living, [their profession] {pro}

but it helps to have money lol ;) :D

Im just speculating on some of the 10/20 players who I see here frequently. You pretty much have to be playing decently high limits to be doing it for a living. Not that everyone on those limits is a pro.

You can maintain an avg of 200$/day on 1/2? Are you sure about this? Thats over 7.5 BigBlinds/hr (given an 8 hr work day). Seems quite high to be attainable over time, given how much varience there is. I don't think anyone can maintain that, no matter how good they are.

I guess if your talking about multi-tabling it could be done.

Edit: I guess this is pretty attainable. Did some reasearch and 5-7BB/hr is what a good player can attain.

Yup seems very hard, making calculations over my own stats, if i want to increase my win rate to 200$/day i should make 184k comp points/month.I play mostly 1-2 and 2-4 and i only make 31500 comp points/month.

I too am looking at moving to Margarita Island, Venezuela. Gas 12 cents a gallon, beer 25 cents, nice beaches, beautiful babes and over 330 days of sunshine per year. Calgary canada has just become way to expensive to live When you got to pay over $7 for a pint a beer you know its time to go.

----

There was also an inquiry on whether your winnings are taxable? If you are a canadian and live in Canada, the answer is NO. All winnings are tax-free, the reason is that Poker.com's servers reside in Canada and are subject to Canadian Regulations. If you go to other poker sites who's servers are located outside of Canada then you winnings are taxable.

I have initated a review of role of KAHNAWAKE Gaming commission and was just recently informed from Jim Prentice Canadian Indian Affairs Minister that the file has been sent to the Justice Minister for a further review and opinion on the status of gamings site hosted by KAHNAWAKE Gaming commission but for now playing is legal and your winnings are tax-free. I'll keep Canadian Poker players informed when I know more.

I have a 3 BDRM house with a friend with my winnings, BUUUT I dont consider myself a pro, just a micro pro.... I think a pro is someone who will be able to win enough to save enough to be able to "retire" from the grind that poker is, someone who will be able to do what ever they want to do one day before they are 60 or so, paying the bills is fine but what about when you cant take anymore, gotta have a fallback... and noone on this site alone makes enough to live in great comfort except bullit, i hate you bullit :) I myself work on a couple sites

I imagine Bullit and Foxy avoid each other for a very simple reason. Why mess with someone tuff when there are so many easier targets?

By the way, 3 years ago when I lost my job I was paying my bills with poker winnings. (was crushing my home game then, and winning slowly at the casinoes)

I am not, will never be, and never have been a pro. I wasn't playing great poker, I was simply playing bad players.

So the simple definition that living off poker winnings means you're a pro is incorrect.

How long do you think one should maintain his level of play before being a full time pro?

I know I'm no where close to being considered a pro...But it has crossed my mind recently...heh.

I've made $300.00 a day here for 3 days straight now...I dunno if I truely am getting better or if I am getting lucky.

Just like to hear what your guys' opinion on how long should you be able to maintain your $/day average before considering doing this full time.

I was reading at another forum a year or two ago. I'm not sure I'm remembering this right, but I think if you're going to play full time poker, you're supposed to have enuff money to pay all your bills for 2 years and THEN have your bankroll. And your buyin for cash games is supposed to be no more than 5 percent of your stack.

So if you need 40k a year to live and you're going to be playing at 10/20 (where your buyin would be 20 *50, or 1000), then you need 40*2 + 1000 *20 which is 100k. So, good luck with that.

And $200/day @ 1/2 is a piece of cake assuming a decent amount of tables are running. Hell it's even doable @ .50/1 if you can get 4-6 tables going (which is sometimes hard I know) :)

I don't think there's any pros here or the site would be promoting them like other sites do their pros.

Bullitpete is the european correspondant which must be unique in
itself.Theres far too many sponsered pros anyway.Theres quite a few guys
that play here who are building big bankrolls. If they aint pros now then they
certainly will be in the future...

anyone who pays their rent/mortgage and lives off poker money is considered a pro... tons on every site, you dont have to know all of them and lots make more than others but that goes for any profession

Well, up until recently, I played almost non-stop and I made a little money. Does that make me a professional?

It seems to me that DAD must be a pro. He can't have time for a regular job. I see him all over the place. Good luck in the satelite today DAD.

its def possible to make a living, and a pretty good living at .50/1 or 1/2. if you make a living playing poker you most likely have rakeback which makes it much easier. in an 8 hour day of playing i can make upwards of $200 in rakeback alone. technically i am a pro because this is all i do for money but am i as good as the well known pros? hell no. but most if not all of them started off small and it took time to build it up to get where they are at now.

ive only been supporting myself solely from poker for 3 months now but ive had a long winning record. one of the posts talked about winning 300 for 3 days in a row asking if hes good enough to be a pro and that isnt how you can tell. sample size is the only way to tell if you are good enough. i would use a sample size of 200k hands at cash tables and if you have a nice profit over those 200k hands and arent running like god then you can prolly do it.

living off of tournaments is much harder because even the best players in the world can play 30+ tournaments and never cash. its just not as consistent as cash, but still doable. regardless of if u play cash or tournaments you have to play a lot in order to show a profit. and that means multiple tables at once

In an other forum I heard people saying that those who earn less than $100k/year are not pros - I dont really I understand why not...
Someone is making 60k, 50k per year and paying the bills, etc. from poker, can be considered to be a pro, right?

imo.. any player who pays their rent/ mortgage and bills from playing poker regardless of how much theyve won, i would consider being a pro... :)

Moose4Life is probably the best player on the site hands down...but that donk4life...everyone should play him...he is so bad and even if you play 1-2...u should try playing him at like 5-10 or 10-20...well worth it. Saw him lose 70k to jerry2009 in one night! think he got it back though...

I wish I was rich enough to have that much money on a poker site without cashing it out.
