Hey all, my new son was born Wednesday night, pictures on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=626822455 You have to be my friend to see them so you'll have to wait till I have time to fiddle with sizes to stick some in this thread or add me :hearts:
We had him at 22:45 Wednesday the 13th at 34 weeks and 6 days and he weighed 4lb 9oz
They let us have a quick hold then took him to the premature unit. They got him settled in a cot then let us go see him. He didn't need a ventilator or tubes to breath; they just pumped extra oxygen into his incubator. They also fed him by drip.
As of 7am Friday morning he has been breathing normal air and Friday night they gave him milk for the first time through a tube that they put down his nose into his stomach. They give him milk every two hours and started with 2ml per hour but tonight they gave hiim 7ml.
They also took the lid off the cot this afternoon coz he can breath by himself with no extra oxygen but they have to keep plenty of covers on him and a heated mattress whilst his body adjusts to regulate his own temparature.
They said if we'd had him today we could have taken him up to the normal ward.
We're just waiting now to see when we can start feeding him without the tube in his nose. We have to stay in the flats for 48 hours whilst feeding him ourselves before we can take him home so we're just waiting to see when that 48 hours will start. It looks like it may be in the next couple of days.
Kirsty and I are both fine. We're just tired
