Forum Upgrades & Changes

Hi all.
So there are going to be some new changes to the forums shortly.

First off they are going to be reorganized as there is a lot of clutter and duplicate threads / topics.

Secondly there will be some changes to the moderators. Many are inactive, some are not full filling their duties and other forum members would maybe make better mods than some of the existing ones.

Finally, the forum is a tool where you can all interact, we want to bring in new players here and have them be welcomed as part of the community. In addition it is also a point of contact and communication channel between staff and players, and vice versa. The forums are supposed to be fun, entertaining and informative and we aim to make them so.

I would love to hear some feedback and suggestions about the up coming changes. :)

Some ideas...

We need to have an introductions section added to the Announcements and admin thread, where players can come in and give a history and a shout out to us. Maybe give a format to it... like, Name, Fav Game, Fav Hand, Job, ect ect...

We need either an Archive Section, or an Actual Archive function added to the BBS, where we can officially send old topics to keep things fresh and exciting.

Forum games and trivia section... with different sub forums containg trivia questions and the like, maybe some official scavenger hunts, Poker quizes...just more fun stuff for members to do besides simply posting.

We need to have regular forum games. This has already been tossed around, and maybe it is time to have some official post counts or something to limit the spammers entry.

Agreed that moderator adjustments are in order... (except for me ;))

Do away with some sections of the forum..i.e. careers, testing testing, almost famous, possibly home games and got news as well... since they are hardly used.

Maybe have a points system of some kind which can be used to get PDC~Carbon poker stuff.

The net gave way to make the world alot closer and into our home's. It truely is a small world after all! Alot of different people here, everyday winds up. This site has been diverse and great experience that way id like it to keep going that way. :win:

I think it is a great idea, but I am curious what the purpose is. I know you guy
want the communication between staff and players should be better, but there
must be more.

It would be great if this forum could function more like a community, where you
can do a lot more than just making post and private messages. Maybe there
could be some strategy movies and articles around here... maybe some quiz
too? term lexicon and so on..

I think it could be an idea to make a more visual picture that PDC and carbon
are using the same forum. Why not create an PDC/carbon loggo for the
forum.. :wave:


Maybe there could be an newbie area where you can ask any kind of
questions, even about how you get stars! ;)

When the new forum is up maybe we can have a PDC vs Carbon tourney? :D

I agree, some new mods may be in order, but not by an elections process. I think if you want it, or you think someone should get it, toss the name into the thread, and let the admin do their jobs of screening and vetting out the so called candidate. A popularity contest for moderator selection might just defeat the purpose of what a mod is supposed to do. Mods sometimes are forced to be very nuetral and also on occasion must take unpopular positions on issues, and the guy or gal who makes mod simply because he has the most "buds" in the forum would have a hard way to go in order to be completely unbiased and favor rational thought over emotion bonds...in their actions and words. Just my 2 cents!


EDIT--- Several years back there was a "popularity" contest that ran amuck in the forum, and not only was there suspicion of fake account creation and the worst kind of smarmy ass kissing politics, but the whole ordeal drove the forum into complete and total CHAOS! This moment is one that defined the need for more mods in the forum (and better ones too), as we had less than a handfull at the time, and they were prepetually absent. The event broke down and came to climax over one weekend and with no mods and no admin to interviene... it snowballed for days...LOL... was crazy times I tell ya... nothing like the puny little tit for tat battles that go on today... this was an all out war.. and all for the sake of the title "Forum Player of the Year". Please! Never again can we have a poll like this. Ever! Ever! Ever! We have already traveled that Avenue, and we are not going back anytime soon! (I hope)

Any other ideas? He really wants to know more about what the layout and content should include from our perspectives. This is our forum after all. What else do we want besides specially selected mods?

I Like what they already started to do to forum face. Reconstruction of that sort needs to be done one thing time. I realy didnt care for the old 12/3/2006 calender under posts. I like what ya got now. And extra tabs on main forum page for forum league members. :win: If Ded gets his achive. Be nice in the advanced seach for forumers if needing or wanting to research old post. :D Just a thought.

Not a silly question at all :)

They generally tidy up threads, remove links that shouldn`t be present and sometimes edit posts if bad language has been used or in the case of this forum someone has mentioned another poker room.

Depending on the forum some will greet new members, post tournament results (here we have the league moderators) and perhaps try and stimulate discussion.

About time, thanks in advance pdc....I will say this there are a few bad apples as mods but some of these guys have done a very great job representing your site Liam....Ded being one of them. I can understand the business side of the decision but honestly a few of these people do a better job than some of the guys there at pdc that get paid lol. Is there no way to give them some kind of mod powers to at least send the post to the correct post etc??? The hours they spend working for your site should count for something?

FYI- I did not bribe anyone in these discussions for their positive affirmations on my behalf. I do not and will not play favorites here in the forum, so there is no benefit for anyone involved to agree or disagree with me or any of the things I have done. Again, Liam will do as he views best for the brands and this forum overall and I respect that. If that includes only having paid employees of PDC~CARBON working the forum as moderators, I support it completely and will relinquish my title without debate or hurt feelings. I will however be forced to accept any offer of employment with Merge Gaming that trickles down the pipe, if that is what it comes down to...LOL...;)

Alreet I read it over 2-3 times. Looks good. Only thing on the forum I didnt see was Blog* Although between a blog tab and site's own blop; might there be a link to each? * meaning. On site talent(player blogs) link with sites blog. IE: Like the pro's do on other sites.?!?!

After all Merge will be sending players(*winners) to WSOP events. Just a thought.

I'd like to suggest that:

a.) Carbon and PDCPoker do not have separate sections. Make this the Carbon & PDCPoker forum...

b.) During the reorganization of the forum, please do not delete posts that no longer have a sub-forum...

c.) Keep the forum Poker/Casino Game focused. Please!!!! No Religious or Political discussions...

d.) New regular avatars (for the tables too) and include the new table smilies here (but don't remove the existing, plz)...

e.) Weekly Forum game. Make the coupon for the Bounty game good for month. Perhaps an All-In or Fold game or a $.10 or $.20 game with like 50 rebuys (see XTenseX B-day game). Change the start time by 6 hours every week to encourage all continents to use the forum...

f.) Slowly change over to staff-only mods, but for now keep those mods that are still active. All mods would be representatives of PDCPoker...

Yep, that was something I was going to comment on. Whilst I can see why Liam is considering making staff moderators is he really going to want them spending their time and PDC`s money moderating our league and taking screenshots etc?

It will be a real shame if we end up with just staff moderating. I`m sure they`d do a good job but that`s kind of the point. To them it would just be a job. Would they really get involved in the forum?

There are plenty of people who have been long-standing, continually active members of this forum who would fill the role of moderator very well. Amongst those are people who wouldn`t misrepresent PDC as has been done by certain individuals recently.

Perhaps a staff member to be forum admin backed up by forum members. If any of them step out of line, remove their moderator status and try someone else.

Add a interactive chat room

Add a blog link.. your blog,Recent entries,Best entries,Best blog,Blog list, etc etc

Add a site map directing you to comp points store ,promotions and so on

Have the ability to add rep to posters and be able to thank other posters for useful posts.

Instead of banning people give them infractions like warning say 1/3 3 and your out.

Have a news feed,upcoming events etc ,Whats going down in the poker world

Have a classic section for those comedy gold threads

And, the KK-Cowboys thing is unique to pdc and really gives you something to work towards andit should not be changed IMO... Specially since noone has every achieved the rockets yet. Maybe after the rockets are reached people can have the function unlocked to personalization- The other ideas were very good though. Like the news feed especially!

I also agree that political and religious opinions should stay out of the forum like Joyce said..

Not sure if this was ever mentionned but i think it could be part of the change....
For the forum search is it possible>>> when you do a search that whatever you type in comes first in the search....

There will be no election or voting for forum moderators. This decision will rest with me and to be honest, I am considering only allowing staff to be moderators and represent the site. This is not yet final, but in order to avoid any appearance of favoritism or an individual misrepresenting the site I feel this might be the only solution.

Mods should always be nice and polite because newcomers tend to think that they are staff. Its a hard decision to remove everyone because we have some mods here who never have been rude with anyone and have represented the site well.

Keep in mind that the staff is usually off at weekends and the mods are here to assist the players.

So Here is my sample idea for a condensed table of contents with many of the feedbacks and suggestions I received. 3 Main sections each with their own archives and with Carbon and PDC merged into one so no double posting is needed! Names and titles can be different but I think this covers all the active content of the forum with clear sections for different information. What u all think?

Alreet I read it over 2-3 times. Looks good. Only thing on the forum I didnt see was Blog* Although between a blog tab and site's own blop; might there be a link to each? * meaning. On site talent(player blogs) link with sites blog. IE: Like the pro's do on other sites.?!?!

After all Merge will be sending players(*winners) to WSOP events. Just a thought.

Well, as far as I know, Jason asked for some input, so what you are confused about is beyond me. I brought the idea from my earlier post forward as I made some changes to it based on feedback I got. As far as the names go, thats a point of opinion and I believe that these titles market the intended subject matter of those sections accurately and appropriately. As far as "advice" goes, The strategy and odds section would cover that point (if you are referring to poker advice).

I understand (I think anyway) what you are saying about blogs, except for the fact that we do now have a blog section, and it has all of 9 threads in it dating back all the way to December of 2006, which to me means the section is not needed as much as is thought.. I know there was a problem with blogs at one point, as too many of them advertised for other poker software, so the links to outside blogs were pretty much stopped with rare exception.

I do not get what you mean by advice. Poker advice, personal advice, deposit advice, forum usage advice? Rather than nay say your idea, I would like you to explain this idea in more detail. Many people when they wanna ask something usually take it to the lobby or to the specific section of the forum that the advice may pertain to. More info?

All of the above... One safe place to ask and have answered any question (without the "search for it" reply). If it is about relationships or anything non-poker, I'm sure some mod would move it elsewhere if needed.

Asking about 'how to search', 'how to post pics', 'hidden smilies', how to size avatars', terminology questions etc, are not advanced poker questions, which, to me, the Stragedy and Odds section impies it's for.

What she said. I know there is info already posted in forum, yes. But i do get asked lots of question's. If i dont know and cant find or send them to the link. LoL this is a lil network of forummers that tend to help out individuals. So yes a advice THead with basic instuction's. Where people can ask for that particular help.

I wish the forum had more of these not less. All there is at the moment is 'yay me i won such and such a tourney' and league stuff. You can have political or religious opinions without offending others. It's all about how you express them. I still think that some forums should be subscription forums where you have to actually make a choice to be able to see the threads in it. This might stop people being offended by the opinions of others. We all have different ideas about what is and what isn't offensive. Who's to say which is more valid? I don't want less variety in the forum i want more.

I do agree with what your saying Alex but when someone goes in the sub area will the ****-talk come in the regular forum.... They're is a fine line to it and can you Mods handle it as they're aint enough of you has it is.....

Ie: able to access the current months newsletter from forum?!? I get mail from suport and have from Liam and Jared. So i know i have no spam block there. And player admin :( can not seem to get the month we are in : ei:Oct. newsletter. or we allways one month behind ?
