I'm in Oregon (PST) wondering when would be a good time of day to find somewhat-full 4/6 or 5/10 $limit hold em tables? Seems like every time I sit down, it dwindles to two or three and I am wearing deoderant.

Please, anyone -

Do Hold 'Em tables 2/4 and larger ever fill up?

I joined yesterday and deposited my money. Is this site new and just getting itself established? That's totally cool and I'd love to support it. I just wish to know if it's hopeless to find a full table at most times of the day. Someone out there knows the answer to when is a good time to find a game of cards. Let me in on the secret . . . I want to play!

Welcome to the forum .............................

Traffic is usually pretty good. Check tables through the day. In that there are so many from around the world, a single time is hard to determine ......... just buzz around and find full tables. You may have to change your $$$ target if you want FULL. GL !!!

hdfree, thank you for taking the time to write.

I will try and learn the subtle art of patience. Is the pace of things at the hold 'em tables that I've been seeing over the past day pretty typical for CarbonPoker?

That is so hard to answer. What exactly is the pace, where are you looking, what are your filter settings (if any). Typical answer is yes, but I don't want to discourage you from playing here. Be specific about what u mean by pace and I will try to answer ya!

Good Luck at the tables!

DedMansHand, thanks for writing. My history's a bit hazy but isn't your Username a reference to Aces and Eights from the legend of Wild Bill Hickok's murder in that Dakota saloon?

Anyway, I play Limit Hold 'em, 5/10 at my home casino. I'm not used to online poker, so I have a lot to learn. It is very different, not being able to see you, et cetera. I'm a break even player, maybe a bit better but nothing spectacular.

With the accelerated pace of online action (versus brick and mortar tables), I may find online 2/4 more commensurate with 5/10 on green felt. We'll see. Also, I prefer full tables - just what I'm used to, I guess.

Take care.

online poker completely dif from live poker, may i suggest playing on a smaller table, as in maybe 50c 1$ or 1$ 2$ just to get a little idea of how some of the people play.. good thing is u can make notes on cert players which will def help u in the long run..

As deek said you might want to try a slighly lower limit than you play live. Online games are usually tougher than their live counterparts. If nothing else you`re likely to find it a much more aggressive game.

Hey people, thanks for writing. DangerMouse, correct me if I'm wrong but in my initial three hours, I've found the games loose/aggressive to be sure. Have I just been on an atypical table? It was a Limit 1/2 - forgot the name.

If anything, it is the accelerated pace of the game compared to green felt that is tripping me up. I'm all worried about my etiquette because before I know what's happening it's my turn and I'm just figuring where the "Fold" button is.

Is this a normal feeling for folks transitioning from brick and mortar to on-line games?

I've dropped down from my usual green-felt 5/10 Limit to 1/2 and occasionally 2/4 (as per y'alls advice).

Oh yea, the other (obvious) difference is that I can't read people worth a darn. It's my greatest strength in a brick and mortar casino, but I've simply lost it. I feel like I'm driving blind, operating without one of my senses. It's really quite odd! Does that feeling resonate with anyone else or is it just me?

Last question: I'm a David Sklansky devotee for poker books. That said, is there a comparable authority for online Texas Hold 'em?

Thanks for everyone's time.

Sorry - what is a "freeroll"?

Freerolls are games offered to you when you get the comp points to play them and there is one $50 freeroll where you just have to catch registration. Go to your player admin to see the schedule 1,000 freerolls through the week 2k on Saturdays and 10 k Sundays the last one of the month is a 50k. Playing your limits you will qualify easily. There will be a 10k this afternoon. These games are the ones with the accolades you see (the cups displayed by players name on the tables)

Once you play for a bit you will see faces you recognized and you won't feel totally in the dark. Just takes some time to get the feel for it. And wear a rainslicker ~ the rivers are brutal but would imagine you have already figured that out.

Good Luck and welcome to the forum :)

I can`t say I`ve played limit at those stakes. I`m more of a tourney player tbh. I would doubt the table was atypical though online play does tend to be more aggressive especially as you go up the limits. You might expect the reverse but it`s quite often the lower limit players that are the "nittiest".

I pretty much started online but on the few occasions I`ve played live I`ve found the game to be very slow so I expect coming from live to online the game would seem very quick.

If it really troubles you either drop down limits or even just sit at a play money table for an hour or so until you`re comfortable with the software (the play will drive you mental but that`s not what you`re there for).

The only reads you`re really going to get are betting patterns which probably aren`t as helpful in FL as NL. Once you`re comfortable with the software you might want to make use of the notes feature to keep track of what people play etc.

I can`t really give a definitive answer on the book at least not for FL cash. Maybe Small Stakes Hold`em by Ed Miller et al. Realistically the principles are the same online as live it`s just a more aggressive game. Have a look around the net there are tons of good articles out there and many of them are by online players.
