3 Basic Rules of PLO8

1. In PLO8 it is most important to play hands with 2-way potential.

Because it is difficult for your opponents to call pot bets without a 2-way hand, position is critical in PLO8. Check-raising in O8 is rare because there are so few hands that don't have some vulnerability. However, when a hand is checked to you and you are last to act you can fire at the pot with marginal holdings including a 1-way nut low or even a 1-way nut low draw.

2. If you do not flop a big hand or draw, fold

So that sounds obvious but a lot of people more accustomed to HE frequently see a big HE hand/draw and get involved when they should muck. Here is a critical concept that does parallel an idea in HE: The more people in the pot, the closer the winning hand(s) will be to the nuts. What separates O8 from HE in this regard is that the winning hand(s) will often be the nuts and for a 2-way board your one-way draws need twice the pot odds compared to HE.

3. When counterfeited on the turn or river, almost always fold

This is the most important idea for turn and river play because generally you will be playing low cards and calling lows when countered is the most expensive mistake you can make on the last two streets. Do not get fancy here. Yeah it is possible your opponent(s) just had their A2s countered as well, but do not bet into them expecting them to fold. They might, but it is more likely someone is sitting there with a wheel and you are not going to be very happy in the end.

*PLO8 is considered a post flop game as preflop raises normally destroy chances for a nice pot and winning only the blinds or a very small pot*.

hope this helps some of you that are interested in PLO8 and are not real sure about how to play.
