so i was playing a cash game today and came upon a dilemma.

sorry for not having a more readable form of hand history here, but i'll do my best:

i am BB with 79s
everyone folds to button+1, who calls
button also calls, SB folds

flop comes 8JA rainbow
checks around
turn is 10

i bet 6xbb
button+1 raises all in (4x my bet)
button reraises all in (13x my bet)

what do you do? call = my entire stack (its 90% of the button's stack)

FOLD! You can't call that much with the dummy end of a draw after checking the flop! There's KQ or Q9 got you drawing dead, you have to think that at least one person has the better straight with those raises

yeah i think you have to fold, some players openlimp KQ in lp for watever reason and prolly also Q9. I'd guess atleast one of them has a higher straight and one prolly a terribly played set/two purrs

Bit more interesting if you had Q9 tho, not sure if i could fold that ingame

Stakes? Reads?

On paper I think fold cause it's probably very unlikely they have a set, and that's a really bad re-re-raise if it's 2 purr. Q9 I'd say probably +eV to call though.

thanks for your insight guys, you both hit on some key points i was considering.

in terms of playing styles, i actually didn't know much about either player because i was multi-tabling.

the result:
small-stack all in shows KQ for the nut straight
big-stack all in shows 88, for a set

I was pretty happy when i saw the KQ, congratulating myself on my monster fold there.
but when i realized i would have netted a profit had i called with the second best hand, i was taken aback. i only considered that someone likely had a KQ since there were two all-ins, but i didn't consider that i only had to beat one of the two players to be profitable.

The problem being, you can't know which one you will beat. With notes it's easier to make a decision on who might have what and their styles of play, but to bet your roll on the bottom end of a draw in a multi pot is almost certainly a habit which will cost you money in the long run

I try to tell myself that too. haha
but the more I think about it, the more I feel that the second player's overbet was trying to push me out -- so it was more than likely he didn't have the KQ (he didn't -- he had the set) ..

I find it very unlikely that he would push a set there for any other reason than value. He was just a donk and thought that would be the best way to make money on his slowplayed hand.
